E.J. Gold reviewing maquettes for backdrops for Isadora Duncan Dance Festival
Artist E.J. Gold arranges maquettes for Isadora Duncan Dance Festival backdrops in his studio.

Penn Valley, April 12, 2005 -- E.J. Gold has consented to paint the theatrical stage backdrops for the Isadora Duncan Dance Festival to be held at the Grass Valley Center for the Arts May 4th through 8th, 2005, featuring Lori Belilove & Company, the resident dance company of the Isadora Duncan Foundation for Contemporary Dance of New York City.

Gold is painting five 11 by 7 foot canvasses to be unveiled at the beginning of the festival on May 5th, as the Company kicks off the festivities with a Lecture and Demonstration featuring Lori Belilove and members of the Company, as well as longtime Company photographer Margaretta K. Mitchell of Berkeley, California, who will offer a peek at her voluminous portfolio of photos of the dance company during the reception later that evening.

The stage backdrops by Gold were created in collaboration with Lori Belilove and Company to compliment the mood of the dance. Well-known for his JazzArt ®, Gold has provided stage dressing for performances by Herbie Hancock, Wynton Marsalis, Oscar Peterson, Toots Theilemans and many jazz luminaries. His JazzArt ® will also be featured at the Hollywood Bowl Jazz Series this summer.

After the Lecture and Demonstration, Gold and the Grass Valley Graphics Group will host a gala reception for the Company in the Van Gogh Room of the Center for the Arts with music, champagne and hor d'oevres.

On exhibit at the reception, will be "Artistic Movement," a fine art presentation of Grass Valley Group paintings and sculpture, together with the exquisite dance photography of Margaretta K. Mitchell, in honor of the Isadora Duncan Festival. Many of the works in the exhibit will be for sale with the proceeds to benefit the Center for the Arts.
