![]() This highly collectible young artist comes to us from the artists' barrio of Trastevere in Rome, Italy: the heart of the Avant- Garde European Art community, where his cutting-edge work in television, video and interactive techno-art installations has already earned him a large following. He has designed and created large-scale video productions, ensembles of poetry, art and image. He also founded the artists' collective MinMega and worked with such leading figures as Francesca da Rimini, The Critical Art Ensemble, the Electronic Disturbance Theatre and the Mutoid Waste Company. In his developmental years, Lapo was very influenced and encouraged by some of the finest italian artists of the last few decades, who frequented his parents' house in Ancona, Italy: the Futurist Ivo Pannaggi, the Surrealist Roberto Matta, the great Modernist Renato Guttuso, and the master of bronze sculpture Valeriano Trubbiani, author of several large sculptures and public commissions. His parents, both writers, were avid collectors of art, particularly Futurist and Surrealist, inspiring in Lapo a love for the word and image interplay, which found its expression through technological artmedia. He became an accomplished Haiku poet and has incorporated many of his writings into his video montages. Further pursuing this course, he was led into the esoterica of Oriental art and the non-technological media of brush, paper and paint. Here, in concentrated meditation, the immediacy of the brush stroke leaves a living image, a record of the artist's interaction with his tools. Rather than creating a static painting, Oriental style painting (or Sumi-e) leaves a fluid trace of the artist's passage: a free flow of kinetic impressions, as uninterrupted as the video montage techniques that Lapo pioneered. His paintings are alive with energy, conveying the essential in a few masterful strokes, with the precision of a Haiku poem. He uses painting to focus his attention and collect himself, often painting the theme of the hermit's house under a tree, set in a swirling landscape of vivid color. You will enjoy living with the dynamic energy of this very collectible young artist, caught on canvas in a blend of brilliant color. Bring a taste of the Avant-Garde into your home. |
